An informed public is key for a functioning democracy.
And everyone’s voice should have the same opportunity to be heard. There is far too much concentration of power and influence in the media. Editors choose what you read and what everyone will be talking about. Regular opinion and human interest columnists are in your face every day even though they have nothing to say. And the whole thing is owned by publishers who’d have a lot to lose if there were an equal and informed populace. Celebrities don’t deserve the platform they have. Let’s be aware of the messages we’re receiving, and work to take back the conversation from the conglomerates.
